Sark (French: Sercq; Sercquiais: Sèr or Cerq) is a small island in the Channel Islands, off the French coast of Normandy. It is a royal fief, with its own set of laws based on Norman law and its own parliament. It has a population of about 600 and an area of 2.10 square miles (5.44 km2) and on Saturday 2nd June I'm going to be covering pretty much all of it as part of the annual Sark 10 mile running race.
Why..?! because it's time for challenge 5 of my 12 steps to Everest challenge raising money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support. I have already walked 48.1 miles around Jersey in the annual ITEX walk, completed the 10 mile Great South Run, the Brighton & Mont Saint-Michel marathons and I'm still not yet half way through!!
My training is going well and my body is surprisingly putting up with the hammering it is getting. I may well be saying differently by the time I return from the slopes of Everest early next year but it will be worth it in many, many ways. Macmillan do great things for those affected by cancer and my role is a very small one in ensuring they continue to do the amazing work that they do.
All you need to do to make me work harder is to donate what you can through the various links on my blog or direct through my JustGiving site at:- www.justgiving.com/12stepstoeverest
